I am located in Toronto and new to angel breeding.
I am thinking of buying a koi breeding pair from angel plus or buy around 6 large kois and wait for them to pair up.Which is a better plan ?
In addition to the folowing that I have( API, water test kits for PH,GH,KH,NO2,NO3), TDS meter, heater, sponge filter(cycled) , air pump...what else do i need for breeding project.
Any books to read on breeding ?

Missing the ammonia kit.
You can purchase pairs but no guarantee they will spawn for you. Or purchase a group and raise them together with hopes of a pair forming.
There are several articles in our Library on angelfish genetics and standards that you might find interesting.

You will also need to get something for them to spawn on. Slate, cone or pvc pipe. Any of them will work fine. My preference is cheap pvc. Best of luck getting things going!
Also, there have been several books written over the years, but if you would like to save some money there is a plethora of information on the internet. In addition to this forum you might like to take a peak a these forums also.

As for buying a mated pair versus buying a group of smaller Angelfish, I have always chosen to purchase a group and allow them to pair off. If your luck is good, you may get two pairs. Sell one of the pairs (and the remaining singles) to offset the cost of buying the group, you are left with one pair that cost nothing or almost nothing depending on how much you sell the second pair for.

Just be patient.I have two breeding pairs that I purchased and one more coming next week from aquabid. I have seen plenty of eggs, one pair continually eats them.I pulled them once but didnt have much luck.The other pair gets all the way to the wiggler stage, but none have survived yet.I am staying positive and hopefully all three pairs will be producing healthy fry.It is frustrating, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
You have much more patience than I do. I pull the eggs to hatch, and that in it's self is another learning curve.Quote:
