Thread: Use it or lose it!

    Use it or lose it!

Looking at the member list it's clear that some people are still visiting the forum, but since, as far as I can see, there have been no new posts in the last 2 months, doing so seems like a pretty futile and disheartening exercise.
It would seem that TAF II has now gone, all those years of experience and accumulated knowledge lost into the ether, yet not a peep about it's demise here.
TWAF disappeared a few years ago now, so now we're left with the banality of Facebook angelfish pages, filled with photos of Bettas and "how do I sex my angelfish?" posts, or the empty echo chamber that this forum seems to be currently.
Surely someone somewhere wants to have in depth discussions, serious debates, or simply to record and share the progress of their breeding projects in a forum where what they have to say and report can be found, accessed and responded to, if necessary in years to come?
Surely we haven't all become so enslaved to the instant gratification of smiley faces on photographs that we no longer care about the bigger picture?
Surely we don't all think we know it all, and have nothing to learn from the experiences of others?

In short, "Is there anybody out there?"
    Blessed are the cheesemakers!

Howdy....I still check in often, but you are right....there's an echo in here....Social media is the bane of any forum(s)...sad indeed.

It occurs to me that one reason that forums are becoming less active is that Photobucket have started preventing users from sharing photos hosted there on other sites, so it might just be worth mentioning that there are other free photo hosting sites that allow sharing. For example, I'm now using http://imgur.com to host my photos.

I too enjoy the forums very much and wondered for many years if there was a decrease in interest for the fish keeping hobby. Yet, I’d be confused seeing how quickly fish keeping YouTube personalities kept growing their viewership. It just didn’t add up.

I never had Facebook or any other social media so I had no idea that’s where everyone was going until my nephew told me recently. Im so disappointed and saddened by the loss of the forum community that I even considered joining Facebook against my wishes just so I could be part of the community again. But I refuse to get involved in social media.

So I’m left visiting all these ghost towns that the forums have become. It does seem futile as no one is around anymore. I fear that all the amazing depth of information and healthy discussions will be lost once the forums completely close and the data is deleted. Can you imagine huge treasure troves of info gone in just a few button presses?

I just spent several days reading about members trying to figure out the genetics of Seal Point Bulgarian Green angels and have been fascinated. I can’t believe people prefer ill thought out one liners on social media over real information. I’m not even that old but none of what’s going on lately makes sense to me. No one converses anymore...it’s all just one big stream of consciousness, a whole mass of people “venting” about random thoughts and never sticking around to defend, explain, or backup their thoughts. It’s just weird...

    Hope this forum lives on.
