Black
Pearlscale
Multiple Locus Phenotype
Non-wild
alleles that interact to form this phenotype:
Dark (D), Pearlscale
(p)

A black
pearlscale is a black angelfish with two doses of pearlscale. It may be
homozygous for dark (double dark black) or may be a hybrid black in which
the dark alleles is paired with a recessive gold, gold marble, or marble
allele.
Possible
genotypes for black pearlscale include:
D/D – p/p
D/g – p/p
D/Gm – p/p
D/M – p/p
Pearlscale is
a recessive trait so the angelfish must be homozygous (double dose) for
pearlscale. With the pearlscale trait the scales are aligned and shaped
to be more reflective of light than wild type scales. Pearlscale doesn’t
show up very well against dark coloration, so a black pearlscale will not
appear as shiny as lighter colored varieties of pearlscale.
