Gold
Pearlscale
Multiple Locus Phenotype
Non-wild alleles
that interact to form this phenotype:
Gold (g), Pearlscale
(p)

The gold
pearlscale phenotype is homozygous (double dose) for two recessive traits,
gold and pearlscale, and has the genotype,
g/g - p/p.
Both gold and
pearlscale are recessive traits that only express when the angelfish is
homozygous for the respective trait. The pearlscale trait alters the
shape of the scales, causing them to be more reflective of light and
giving the angelfish a glossy appearance. Other than making the scales
more reflective, pearlscale does not alter the expression of the gold
trait.
Gold
pearlscale is considered by some people to be the most striking phenotype
for displaying the pearlscale trait because the pearlscale shows up very
well on gold angelfish. Pearlscale is sensitive to environmental
conditions, and does not always fully express even under optimum
conditions. When the pearlscale trait expresses fully in this phenotype,
the angelfish will almost look like it is covered with gold foil.
