Leopard
Multiple Locus Phenotype

Non-wild alleles that interact to form this phenotype:
Smokey (Sm), Zebra (Z)

 Leopard

A leopard angelfish has two alleles for smokey and either one or two alleles for zebra.  It has one of the following two genotypes:

Sm/Sm - Z/+
Sm/Sm -Z/Z

The leopard angelfish got it name because as a fry and juvenile it is characterized by a speckling of small dark spots on its body.  As it matures, darker coloration develops across the body and the spots are not longer present.  An adult leopard is similar in appearance to an adult chocolate angelfish.

Approved by The Angelfish Society Standards Committee on March 11, 2007.
