Smokey Black
Multiple Locus Phenotype

Non-wild alleles that interact to form this phenotype:
Dark (D), Smokey (Sm)

Smokey Black

The Smokey black phenotype has one allele for smokey at the smokey locus and two alleles for dark (black) at the dark locus. It has the genotype:

D/D – Sm/+

Unlike a smokey lace, in which the distribution of color is similar (although darker) to that of a smokey, in the smokey black, the dark coloration covers the entire body.  An attractive and distinct lace pattern can be seen in the dorsal and anal fins and in the tail.

Approved by The Angelfish Society Standards Committee on March 11, 2007.
