Dark Locus
The
non-wild alleles at this locus are:
Dark (D), Marble (M), Gold Marble (Gm), Gold (g)
Possible Phenotypes:
Black (double dark) (D/D)
Hybrid black (D/M, D/Gm, D/g)
Black Lace (D/+)
Marble (M/M, M/Gm, M/g)
Silver Marble (M/+)
Gold Marble (Gm/Gm, Gm/g)
Silver Gold Marble (Gm/g)
Gold (g/g)
Dark, marble, gold marble, and gold are mutations of the wild type
gene that occur at this locus. The
non-wild alleles at this locus and their
relationship to each other are shown in this table.

The
non-wild alleles at the dark locus show sequential dominance in the order in
which shown in the table. Dark (D) is co-dominant when paired with a
wild allele, and is dominant to marble, gold marble, and gold
alleles. Marble (M) is co-dominant with the wild allele, and is
dominant to the gold marble and gold alleles. Gold marble is
co-dominant with the wild allele and is dominant to gold. Gold is
recessive to all other alleles at this locus, and only expresses when
the genotype is homozygous for gold (g/g).
Phenotypes at the dark locus fall into four categories: black, marble,
gold marble, and gold. Descriptions and photographs of the phenotypes
in each category can be found by clicking on these links:
